The Town of Fort Erie has initiated a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to assess water servicing strategies for the beachfront neighbourhoods along Colony Road, Windmill Point Lane East/West, and Staniland Park Road. The area is currently serviced by an existing 3 km watermain which is experiencing operational, maintenance, and servicing issues due to its age and location.

The Town has retained GM BluePlan Engineering Ltd. (now GEI Consultants Canada Ltd ) to complete the Class EA and conceptual design.

Preliminary Study Area

The preliminary study area for the project is Thunder Bay Road to the north, Colony Road alignment to the west, Stonemill Road to the east, Lake Erie to the south. The figure below shows the preliminary study area.

Study Purpose

This study will identify and evaluate water servicing alternatives to develop a long-term solution to alleviate the existing operational issues while maintaining appropriate service levels for local residents.

The Process

The study will be completed as a Schedule B Class EA, satisfying Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class EA process. The Class EA aims to achieve the following:

  • Define the study area
  • Describe the existing conditions in the study area
  • Develop and evaluate alternative strategies
  • Determine a feasible solution
  • Identify methods to avoid or minimize impacts

Public and stakeholder input will be sought throughout the process. Check back for future public meeting dates!

Upon completion of the study, GEI will prepare a Project Report for submission to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, which will be available for public review for 30 calendar days.

Information will be collected in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. With the exception of personal information, all comments will be part of the public record.
