New Fort Erie Fire Station 4 Construction
In 2020, Town Council approved plans to rebuild Fort Erie Fire Station 4 by combining Fire Stations 4 and 6. The need for a new fire station in Fort Erie was first proposed in February of 2018 based on the recommendations from the Fort Erie Fire and Emergency Services organizational review completed in January 2017 conducted by POMAX Consulting Inc.
The review suggested amalgamating fire stations 4 and 6 into one new station to better serve the Ridgeway and Crystal Beach communities and improve response time.
This new fire station will reduce the need for capital improvements by $275,000 for existing fire stations 4 and 6. In addition, revenue generated from the sale of both buildings and property will help offset costs associated with the new fire station.
The amalgamation will also allow for a reduction in fleet size without sacrificing the safety or quality of fire services provided by the Town of Fort Erie. It is estimated that this amalgamation will save the taxpayers $900,000 over the next 10 years.
Once construction is complete, the new location of Fire Station 4 will be Ridge Road North between Frances Street and Rebstock Road. Construction is expected to be completed in March 2022. The total financial commitment for this project is about $6.55 million. This cost will be funded through the capital reserves, debt and property land sales.
The Town of Fort Erie’s fire services is made up of 121 local firefighters who proudly serve the Fort Erie community.
What does the Fort Erie Fire Department mean to you?
Sad to learn that the Crystal Beach Fire Station is being sold and relocated. I moved here 16+ years ago and The CB FD has become to be known a symbol of safety (much like a light house) and is a ‘pillar’ marking the concentration of residential and commercial area of “ the beach .” As well a landmark for directions ;) I have used often . While I understand the need to maintain infrastructure and to upgrade ; it’s still a loss to this neighbourhood.

Public fundraising efforts - Who doesn’t enjoy seeing the firefighters fill up their boots for cause in summer out front of the station?
Parents bring their young children to the station on Halloween and Christmas or Open Houses , summer movie nights, canned food drives, bottle drives, car washes , Public Safety messages (check your batteries in your smoke detector... I think one summer early on moving here the fire department cruised through the neighbourhood to deliver this message :)
I love seeing the CBFD participate in the once annual “ death of summer historic parade” in the neighbourhood.
Not to forget , the tiny inviting garden out front with a picnic table where seeing people “ having a seat and a chat for a bit “ I enjoyed seeing and reading the greeting/ safety message and current temperature on arrival at end of my work day.
Beside the many intangible ways the CBFD impacts the neighbourhood, residential property value are given a rating by town for taxes (?) and potential buyers and the real estate market based on proximity to these vital public services (aren’t they?) it only stands to reason, that the closer you are to the FD the quicker they arrive to a call for help and we all know every second matters in many cases.
Again while decision has been made to relocate and sell existing CBFD it is a loss to our neighbourhood .
