The Town has identified a need to improve roadway safety at the Ott Road at-grade railway crossing. This Public Information Centre is being done to provide information on the project status and to seek input from the Public regarding the preferred alternative. Improvements to the road profile to reduce the existing "bump" are anticipated.
Proposed Improvements
The planned improvements include raising the vertical profile of Ott Road and Church Road south of the railway crossing to better match the elevation of the railway tracks, and operational improvements including additional signage & pavement markings, and minor vegetation clearing to improve sightlines.
The Town intends to proceed with the detailed design, and construction of this project in Fall 2022.
The project is being completed as a Schedule “A+” project in accordance with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, amended in 2007, 2011 & 2015), and the proposed improvements are pre-approved under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.
The project was originally initiated as a Schedule “B” Municipal Class EA in January 2019, as potential road realignments and/or the closure of Ott Road at the railway crossing were being considered at the time.
