In October of 2019 and again in December of 2022 the Lake Erie shoreline in southern Ontario experienced a sudden, unprecedented and extraordinary weather event including intense rain, snow and high winds. During these storm events the Point Abino Road South area experienced a high level of damage.

The Town applied for Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance (MDRA) and received approval totaling $7,215,000 in late December of 2021 with $3,284.700 of these funds scheduled for the reconstruction of the damaged portion of the roadway and shoreline on Point Abino Road South.

The Town of Fort Erie has initiated engineering design services for the Point Abino Road South Reconstruction Project. Point Abino Road South is a rural road located in the south western portion of the Town of Fort Erie along the shores of Lake Erie.

The project limits begin approximately 250 metres south of Erie Road and end at Abino Hills Road. The general scope of design for this project includes the following elements:

  • Full road reconstruction
  • Rebuild and replace shoreline protection wall to withstand future extreme weather events
  • Replacement approximately 900m of existing watermain and services to property line
