The Thunder Bay Road Upgrade project is located in the urban community of Ridgeway-Thunder Bay section of Fort Erie, extending from Prospect Point Road South to Burleigh Road South.

The timing of this project is driven by the West Wind Shores development located east of Burleigh Road South. A risk analysis of this area was also conducted through the Town's Asset Management Plan.

The result of the risk analysis recommended the replacement of approximately 800m of 300mm diameter cast iron watermain along Thunder Bay Road from Burleigh Road South to Prospect Point Road South.

The Thunder Bay Road upgrade was also identified in the 2023 Development Charges Background Study.

This project will also consist of a comprehensive reconstruction of the two-lane roadway, this entails the installation of storm sewer infrastructure, reconstruction of road sub-grade, installation of curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Additional improvements include modern street lighting, enhancement of turning radius at intersecting side streets, and the construction of roundabout at the intersection of Butlers Drive and Thunder Bay Road, facilitating efficient and safe movement of vehicular traffic through this area.
