The Walden Boulevard Upgrade Project is located within the urban community of the Walden neighbourhood in Fort Erie. The project limits extend along Walden Boulevard from Murdock Boulevard to Concession Road, and along Murdock Avenue from Dipietro Street to Walden Boulevard.
This project is driven by ongoing and planned development in the surrounding area and aims to upgrade Walden Boulevard and Murdock Avenue to an urban standard cross-section. The scope of work includes road reconstruction, watermain replacement and installation, sanitary sewer installation, storm sewer system upgrades, and the addition of curb, gutter, and sidewalks along the South-side of Murdock Avenue and Walden Boulevard.
A risk assessment completed as part of the Town’s Asset Management Plan identified critical infrastructure needs within the project area. Based on this analysis, approximately 375 m of existing 150 mm diameter asbestos cement watermain along Murdock Avenue and Walden Boulevard will be replaced. In addition, approximately 250 m of new 150 mm diameter watermain will be installed along Walden Boulevard, extending to Concession Road.
The project also includes sanitary sewer improvements, consisting of the replacement of approximately 112 m of 200 mm diameter sanitary sewer on Murdock Avenue, the extension of approximately 45m of 200 mm diameter PVC sanitary sewer, and the installation of approximately 164m of new 200 mm diameter PVC sanitary sewer along Walden Boulevard.
Roadway reconstruction will bring both corridors to an urban standard, including a new storm sewer system throughout the project limits. The proposed storm system will outlet through the former CN railway corridor and connect to the existing storm outlet at Garrison Road.
The Walden Boulevard Upgrade Project is also identified in the 2023 Development Charges Background Study.
