Consultation has concluded

The Bertie Place Watermain Replacement Project area is located along Bertie Place from Dominion Road to Hibbard Street. A risk analysis of this area was conducted through the Town's Asset Management Plan.

The results of the risk analysis showed that that this section of Bertie Place (about 210m) required the following work:

  • Replacement of the existing 100 mm diameter cast iron watermains with 150 mm diameter PVC watermain, including replacement of all services up to/including curb stops at the property line.
  • Replacement and extension of the existing 200mm diameter asbestos cement sanitary sewers including maintenance holes and services to the property line.
  • Improvements to the stormwater drainage works.
  • Full reconstruction of the road with shoulders.

Please review the documents included on the right hand side of this page and complete the survey. We would like to hear your thoughts and concerns on this project prior to construction.

    Closure of Bertie Street Curve

    Road Name: Bertie Street Curve

    From: Bertie Street

    To: Ridge Road North

    Date: Thursday, July 22, 2021

Time: For a period of 3 months (approximately)

Project: Trial Closure of Bertie Street Curve

Project Scope: The curved portion of Bertie Street from Bertie Street to Ridge Road North in both directions will be closed to all traffic for a trial period of approximately 3 months.

Town of Fort Erie Contact: Nicholas Chevalier, A.Sc.T., CRS, Supervisor – Roads and Stormwater Services (T: 905-871-1600 x2463, E: nchevalier@forterie.ca)

Contractor performing the work: Town of Fort Erie

What to expect during the work: Following the receipt of feedback from the community regarding the 3-intersection complex connecting Ridge Road North and Bertie Street, Parsons, an engineering consultant, was retained by the Town to complete a functional and sign review of the intersection complex.

The ultimate recommendation of the review was to delete the southern (curved) section of Bertie Street and have all traffic routed to the existing intersection at Bertie Street and Ridge Road North.

As recommended, the Town will be undertaking a 3-month trial of the new configuration and will be installing temporary concrete barriers, road closure signs and new pavement markings.

The trial period will run to approximately September 30, 2021 but may be shortened, extended or made permanent.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation.
