The Town of Fort Erie is seeking your input on converting the Erie Road parking lot (east of Derby Road - see location map under 'Documents') to a paid parking lot with overnight parking permissions. Currently it is free to park in this lot and overnight parking is not permitted.

The preliminary proposal for discussion is:

  • "Pay and display" parking would be implemented during the peak season similar to the Bay Beach parking lot. The use of parking spaces would be on a first come, first serve basis. No parking spaces would be reserved.
  • Paid parking would only be in effect for the peak season, from Victoria Day to Labour Day. An hourly rate would be charged with a maximum daily rate, between 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
  • Paid overnight parking would be in effect year-round. A flat rate would be charged for overnight parking.
  • Potential to keep 2 to 3 free parking spaces (with a time limit) for pick-up/drop-off purposes for customers going to local businesses.

The following physical improvements would also need to be made to the parking lot:

  • Installation of a "pay and display" machine similar to the Bay Beach lot.
  • New line painting, including for accessible spaces.
  • New signage for the parking lot, including for the pay and display machine and for accessible parking spaces.
  • Evaluation of lighting on site and improvements if necessary.
  • Evaluation of bike parking on site/nearby and improvements if necessary.

Town Staff and Council are seeking your input on this proposal. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey below and provide any additional comments.
